The Wipers are, and will always be, one of my favorite bands of all time. Their songs seem to never date and only improve with time. So dark, yet so enthralling. I could listen to any of the first 3 records at anytime and always be satisfied (shit, you could make that any of their records). And while they do receive some recognition (mostly due to Cobain citing them as a primary influence) this album seems to get passes over. That's a shame since this is Greg Sage at his pinnacle. Much more jangly and broody (which is saying a lot), Straight Ahead deserves a re-evaluation and elevation as one of the best 80s rock records. I've played this to long time Wipers fans who never gave this a fair shake; every single one of them was blown away.
