Cymande

I don’t typically think of England when I’m looking for some funk.  I suppose there’s a few bands that have put out some decent things, but it just seems like such an American product (yeah, I know there’s good stuff to be found in multiple African and Asian nations as well).  But Euro funk has always left me a bit cold.  Maybe this one classes a bit differently because, while the band is from London, it’s primarily composed of people from Jamaica and Guyana.  And that island feel does get refracted through a multicultural lens, creating a sound that seems to escape convention.  It was about 95 a day ago and it led to me turning a lovely shade of crimson, but sunburns aside, it was just too difficult to resist blasting this and sit out on the balcony for a day.

Yeah Yeah Noh-When I am a Big Girl

Last posting day, I focused entirely on music of the 90s. There was no reason aside from the fact that it just popped into my head and I thought it might lead to some diverse results yet still maintain some time of format. So, on that point I guess today I'll go with the 80s since it's another decade people seem to fetishize. You can say what you want, but I don't remember it being all that great. But this album (a comp of their first few e.p.s actually) is that great. I think all it will take is a listen of the lead track, "Cottage Industry," and you'll agree. Some quick glances around the internet seemed to suggest that these guys were pretty popular at the time. I don't seem to remember anyone talking about them.

Chris Morris-Blue Jam

This is often described as ambient radio comedy, and I guess that's what I'll go with too. If you have any interest in British comedy (and if you don't than go watch the Hangover or some other frat boy bullshit), than this will probably be for you. This is from the guy who had a sketch called "Christ's Cock and Balls" so you know it can't be all that bad. Brian Eno, Labradford, Aphex Twin, are just some of the artists these surreal sketches are laid over. Why the hell are we content to have such stupid comedies when things like this are successful elsewhere. Instead we have Judd Apatow and other half tards that churn out the same formulaic garbage. People, wise up. We can actually have humor again. So take off that stupid white baseball cap. Swap out those cargo shorts. Tuck in that button down shirt. And just hide that tribal tattoo (ooh, so tough). It's time to stand up and demand comedies that don't treat us like the idiots that we are.
