Zippo Zetterlink-In the Poor Sun

Hard to find Krautrock gem that laid hidden under the detritus for far too long.  Typically, archeological digs of this sort turn up petrified shit, yet those fossil feces always seem to get a reissue and a buncha hype.  I cannot even list how many “lost classics” are just garbage that settled on the bottom and should have been left there. Just because it’s old doesn’t mean it’s good.  It just means that it’s better than the crap that currently exists.  When looking at that “long lost” ratio it’s obviously that you’re looking at something akin to a batting average of a hitter with two broken wrists.  Good think this album is actually worth the effort.  Zooed out heavy vibes that seem to seep out of a dank Hamburg cellar.  Naturlich, this was self-released effort.

Dschinn

I know things can often get a little too out around here and it can all start to seem like an exercise in esoterica. This post is to remind us all that there is nothing qrong with rock and roll. I know it's fallen out of fashion as of late, and few people seem to just want to play some rock music. Those fuckers who drape themselves in irony have tried to poach legends (ZZ Top, et al.). Despite their passionless attempts to pilfer quility rock and scornfully wear their faux vintage concert tees, I cannot turn my back on simple beauty on the simple beauty of well constructed rock. And that's more or less what you get here, albeit filtered through a very German understanding of the genre. It's also a NWW listed band. Final note, people stop pretending to like things that you don't actually like. No one finds you charming just because you have a perm and wear a Scorpions shirt (of course I love them to death as well).

Agitation Free-Malesch

When your early line up includes members who later joined Guru Guru and Tangerine Dream (love 'em both), then you know you've got something worth pursuing. This is something that I kept thinking I've already posted but somehow I suppose it just slipped by. But I'm always fucking up something or other. At least this is one of those mistakes that I can actually correct, unlike some of those that will haunt me forever (ooh, how spooky and mysterious I know). But the even graver mistake is missing out on this prime slice of NWW listed kraut goodness. It's not super obscure or anything but that doesn't mean that it isn't one of the classics of the genre. Or of any genre for that matter.

Ash Ra Tempel-Schwingungen

Again, this one is for my friends who have been giving Manuel Gottsching's album a lot of ear time. Some of them have told me that they've never heard his original band. And now you may though it's not going to sound anything like that album. Of course, Gottsching is a guitar god so that doesn't change here, but instead of sound sculptures that massage the mind, this album is like taking ten hits of acid. Heavily stoned krautrock in its pure form that gives you that mind leaving the body feeling. And would it be nice to take a trip right now? Not sure guys, maybe you'll like this one. But I suppose you can always delete it, so what's the harm.

Witthüser & Westrupp-Trips & Träume

One more great but under appreciated mindbender. Look at the cover, check the title, and you'll know this one is going for the drug addled approach. But this is not some brain fried, 40 minute, guitar masturbation as my mind reaches a higher level of existence. This duo opts for a more folky approach that doesn't necessarily seem that congruent with a lot of their peers. And that's probably why I enjoy this one so much. In a genre that has plenty of cliches, it's always refreshing to discover those doing it well, but not becoming a cardboard cut out. This would cozy up along side Pearls Before Swine, Trees Community, C.O.B. and the like on snow blind days like this.

Dom-Edge of Time

Trying to find info on this band will most likely prove more than difficult. I'm assuming search for "Dom" lead to a seriously different subject matter. But perhaps that's your thing. I'm not judging. But one thing I will judge is how underrated this Krautrock gem truly is. Too many fans of the genre seem to think anything coming out from that spatio/temporal location is somehow an instant classic. But people, we all know there's tons of shit there too (I won't name names at the moment). So while everyone keeps hyping the same bands, I have seen little fanfare for these guys. So fuck it, I'll go out there and claim that this is one of the best records of that period, period. You might disagree, but then if you do I'll just assume you haven't actually listened to this yet. And don't try to mention Future Days Mr obvious (yeah, it's good, and over rated).
