Bob Bannister-Dives and Lazarus:Death Chants, Breakdowns, and Tape Loops

Dear lord, did Ptolemaic Terrascope ever get it right by including this disk on its top 100 records list. And it's the one that I mention to other psych heads and have never gotten a straight response. The phonies will claim that they actually know what this is, but they don't. You know those types who've heard everything but for some reason only seem to talk about whatever the current trend is. Don't trust them people. But for most of us, this isn't an album that gets much cred. And that means people are really missing out on something special. At its core, the album consists of traditional folk tunes. That's fine as it is and it's nothing to sneer at. Then there's all sorts of interesting dronal textures that surround the tunes. This album definitely proves the point that experimentation can be done with subtlety and taste rather than the heavy handed "hey look at me getting weird" posturing that kills so many albums.

Kendra Smith-The Guild of Temporal Adventurers

No posts recently because shit has been hectic. Driving 10 hours each way to ass crack Michigan to attend a wedding. Running back into town to teach. All the while trying to balance the bullshit that's becoming a millstone. A man needs a break to reflect. And this is definitely the proper album for some blissful moments of solitude and deep meditation. As a member of the Dream Syndicate, Rainy Day, and Opal, Smith has given these ears hours of mirth. If those names meaning anything to you then I doubt you'll deny your ears the pleasure of being filled by these cosmic tones.

Rosemary Krust-S/T, The First Two Weeks, Slow Light

Let's take a break from the old timey things for a moment, M'kay? There's a duo out of Baltimore that's been making pretty brilliant fuzzed out droney bliss for the past couple of years, and I'm not talking about Beach House. There is a certain similarity between the two bands but this is more distorted and less dreamy. Yet it should get all the hype that B.H. as been getting from all the hipsters (oh, you silly kids). This post collects all there output, barring their latest 7" (available here). And it looks like they have a few tapes coming out somewhat soon. You should be excited about that too.

Marilyn Decade

Finally found the real cover after a long search. I guess that just points to the fact that no one gives a fuck about this really great album. So, with no one to rip off, where do I begin? I guess I should say, if you like John Fahey, Spacemen 3, others trawling the cosmic connection between guitar and a higher plane, then this is probably for you. This came out of nowhere, and has remained there for far too long. It's a pretty, instrumental, guitar driven album that should be hailed as a classic, but just never got that status. It's here. And if you sleep, then you're the dummy. I tried to get it out, but at this point, it's up to you to get this. I can only force the issue so much. So just get it now.

Urfaust- Urvaterlich Sagen

Sorry about the tiny picture, but that's all I could find. But don't let what you can see of it mislead you. These Dutch ones may associate with the darkness of black metal, and this demo certainly has the right cover for it, but this is really quite pretty. This three track demon consists of a long, droney piece of bliss. The second track would be perfect if you wanted to recreate the mask scene from Eyes Wide Shut. And it all concludes with another spacey piece of darkness. Lesson of the day: don't judge a metal dude by his corpse paint.
