Rodney Dangerfield-No Respect

Just look at that lovely mug and tell me you don't want to give this a listen. For some reason, it seems that readers enjoy my spoken word/audiobook/stand up posts, so here's one more classic. Obviously, there's no need to write about Dangerfield's brilliance. Self deprecation at it's finest. Give it listen and maybe you'll hate yourself slightly less.

Woody Allen-Standup Comic

Nothing like days like this to make you feel more isolated and distant from those you care about. So let's have a laugh or something. One thing I like to do is listen to stand up albums when I walk around town, though I am well aware that I must look like a psycho to passersby. I suppose seeing someone who looks like me laughing to himself might seem pretty suspicious, but who cares. The opinions of the locals was something that never really concerned me anyways. So where ever you live I suggest downloading this and conducting your own experiments. See how many people will point at you, or sneer, or flick you off. Matt, not sure if you have this already (I think you might), if not then grab it.

Neil Pye-Neil's Heavy Concept Album

So, a while back I posted the Young Ones related album by proto-Spinal Tap metal comedy group Bad News. Apparently people don't seem to love the Young Ones as much as me. That being the case, this will probably not interest you either as it is basically Neil doing his hippie shit on an album. While there's some weird spoken word stuff and little sketches, there's some pretty interesting covers too (Donovan, Traffic, Pink Floyd, etc). Oh hippies, your dirt burgling/filth hoarding asses still provide so many laughs.

Chris Morris-Blue Jam

This is often described as ambient radio comedy, and I guess that's what I'll go with too. If you have any interest in British comedy (and if you don't than go watch the Hangover or some other frat boy bullshit), than this will probably be for you. This is from the guy who had a sketch called "Christ's Cock and Balls" so you know it can't be all that bad. Brian Eno, Labradford, Aphex Twin, are just some of the artists these surreal sketches are laid over. Why the hell are we content to have such stupid comedies when things like this are successful elsewhere. Instead we have Judd Apatow and other half tards that churn out the same formulaic garbage. People, wise up. We can actually have humor again. So take off that stupid white baseball cap. Swap out those cargo shorts. Tuck in that button down shirt. And just hide that tribal tattoo (ooh, so tough). It's time to stand up and demand comedies that don't treat us like the idiots that we are.

Emo Phillips-E=MO2

Why is everyone in such an uproar about emo today? On other blogs (this really only occurs on "punk" blogs) I see several post decrying emo, even calling for the death of emo For some reason these are always by e.s.l. authors. But I don't get it, I think he's hilarious. Okay, I'm not really that dense. Joking aside, I figured I should post another Illinois classic. And he's from fucking Downers Grove of all places. Despite the popularity peaking around U.H.F. era, Emo's still at it and still a nutter. So have a laugh on me.

Daddy's Curses

Whoda thunk that a guy trying to fix a piano could be so hilarious. And that's basically what this is. Recorded by his son, this poor sap goes from early stages of frustration, replete with the most mild explitives (Dang it all), to some full blown fury. Enjoy the sounds of this man's breakdown, you little sadist.

Don Rickles-Hello Dummy

One more before the night's through. Anyone who knows me will certainly testify that I love talking about dummies. And living in Morgantown I'm fortunate since there is such an abundance of such people. People who will almost drive off the road because they're busy with scratch off lottery tickets. People who wear white baseball caps. People who love calling my friends and I faggots every time we walk to school. Oh, and the trash heap of human refuse that hangs out in front of the church near Alex's--I can't forget those winners (your super huge jeans might benefit from the addition of more zippers). I can name fifty or so local varieties, and that might be selling the diversity short. Rickles also knows a thing or two about dummies. While his jokes are more racist, homophobic, and misogynistic, than what I'm talking about, his bitterness still makes me laugh. This isn't for prudes even though it's like 40 something years old. But if you don't get the humor then go suck a lemon you sour fuck. So anyways, metal, the theme of the month. Obviously, Donny isn't going to burn a church down or anything, but his hate is strong. Therefore, I proffer that he be included in metal month simply because his disdain for stupidity far exceeds that of any dour Norwegian. This guy's as old as Abe Lincoln's dildoes, and he's still funny.

Bad News

Pre-Spinal Tap Spinal Tapisms, but probably funnier. If you're like me, you'll agree that the Young Ones was one of the best tv shows of all time. If you're not then you probably think Drop Dead Fred was the best thing Rik Mayall ever did. Okay, okay, it gets better with age. Well anyways, Bottom might actually be better, but that never had Motorhead on it, so who knows. Well, this is three of the Young Ones pre-empting the Tap (by one year). Yes, it's a joke, but it still rocks. C'mon, you can't deny that "Masturbike" is one hell of a song title. I figured after all the grimness a light humor would cleanse the palette. I think Brian May might have even produced this gem. Just don't call it a spoof, it deserves more than that implies.

The Misfats-Misfits Tribute E.P.

Get a load of these beauts. America's fattest Misfits cover band comes on strong with parodies that would make Weird Al cry. C'mon who doesn't want to here "Mommy, Can I go out and Grill Tonight?" This e.p. crushes that Pajo covers album like these dudes' asses crush toilet seats.

Venom-Live at City Gardens 7"

Yes, yes, Venom rule. But this isn't their typical sound. Instead, this is a live recording of Cronos's lovely stage banter with all the songs removed. As you can see on the flyer above, Venom toured with Black Flag, whose roadie, Joe Cole, recorded these hilarious stage antics. Thurston Moore later put this out on his label, and I think the Beastie Boys might have even sampled it. And note that evil ticket price.

Meatus Murder-More Songs About Balling and Food

I'm pretty sure this is an internet only release. While you can still probably download it from their site, I figured that I'd post it here anyways. Being from Chicago, I can appreciate any song about Scotty Pippen. Most of these songs are about sports, bad music, and other things set against music from other songs. For example, you hear the story of Mark McGuire unfold over Springsteen's "I'm on Fire." Hilarious.

Kathy McGinty

Despite the fact that this is a prank call cd, and it's hilarious, it can also be quite sad. The whole premise of Kathy McGinty is a dude, a girl, and a sampled woman's voice, who talks to lonely guys on sex chats. As you would expect, this is trashy, crude, and tons of laughs. But I feel for these lonely guys. I'm amazed just how powerful horniness can be when it comes to willfully ignoring the absurd just for a yank.
