"Done because we are too menny"-Little Father Time

"Done because we are too menny"
Don't expect anything cheerful. I'm not in the mood for that and it seems like most of the people who read this aren't either. Instead, time to embrace some sour power. I think the story of this record goes something as follows. Bixby gets pretty fucked up on drugs, checks into rehab, finds Jesus, then records this downer folk classic. The funny thing is, Bixby doesn't sound any happier for embracing God. I guess Jesus can fuck you up just as much as some horse. The songs are simply arranged with mostly just acoustic guitar and vocals. It would probably sit nicely on the shelf along side Perry Leopold and Maitreya Kali (I'll post both of these guys sometime). I hope this album doesn't convert anyone.
Perhaps there is no better record for hushed afternoons on grey days than this masterpiece. This is one of those few records that upon initial listen it instantly becomes one of your all time favorites. So rarely does that happen that when I first heard this years ago, I was instantly obsessed. So dark and beautiful and utterly human. There's a fragility that shines through even at the most psychotic moments. I won't even stoop to try to compare this to anything else.
I probably shouldn't slag on an entire state, especially since so many of my students are from there, but man I do not like New Jersey. I've been told that there's actually pretty parts (where?). All I've seen is nasty urban wastelands and muscly dudes with terrible haircuts. Fine, shore core was alright, and who doesn't like the Misfits? But this is my pick for Jersey's finest. Higney was a trucker who recorded these demos with the hopes of getting some record deal. But there's no way anyone would touch this mutant. These songs are demented, atonal, yet rocking, glimpses into a mind that has been on the road so long that he's convinced himself that he can actually be a rock star. And since I'm generalizing about states anyhow--Fuck you Texas.
