Jr. and His Soulettes-Psychodelic Sounds

God, I can't believe that school has started up again. This summer, barring maybe the last month, sucked and now I'm right back at teaching. Anyone out there need some English credits? I still have some room in my Early Brit Lit survey. And I promise, no Beowulf. The weirdest thing about being back in action is seeing just how young these kids look. Every year they look younger, and every year I get better looking. Now, some of my students look like would be my kids. And speaking of kids, hows about some psych funk from a buncha little brats? The oldest here tops out at 10, so how the fuck did they come up with this shit? If you're singing about tequila and pimps at that age, life must have been pretty screwy.

Rock Jack-Belly Bones

There was one blog that really made me want to start this piece of shit up in the first place. So you can blame Aesop over at the almighty Cosmic Hearse for this travesty. After my rant on kids posted in the Dandelions post, I started to rethink my position once this album popped into mind. and you can thank Aesop and his partner for Ezra. This kid is too cool. Cooler than me for sure...cooler than you most definitely. He's the reason vasectomies can be reversed and losers like me who bitch about kids are proven wrong. This little dude sings the truth; "Darth Vader is Mean"--definitely. And he was only 3 when he was singing this universal truth. And if you think you could come up with something as brilliant as "Toilet Master" you must have had a hard hit upside your noggin. The only reason not to download this now would be that both of your hands are in casts and your clicking finger just won't work. And even that's a pretty lame excuse. Get your mom to click on the link you basement dweller. Albums like this make an old curmudgeon like me optimistic. Maybe the kids will have their say and it will be about rocking asses off. Kids=1, old losers (us)=0.

Dandelions

Here's a really treat. The stars must have been aligned sometime in 1971, when two tweens (11 & 10) got together to cut this fantastic slice of innocence. I've read about some Shaggs comparisons, and that's not too far off. But christ, these kids wrote better songs than I ever could. Their ineptitude only makes it that more charming. Normally, I think kids suck pretty hard, but for some reason there's a really understated beauty and yearning here that makes me think that there might be a few kids that don't need to be dashed against some rocks. More kids need to follow and leave that kids bop shit alone. It's just creepy.
