Tales of Terror

I spent the weekend watching my sister's dogs. She lives in the old Chess records pressing factory (the plant on 21rst, not the studio on Michigan). So I walked the dogs around the lakefront (Lake Michigan for those without geographical sense and those outside the U.S.). And being that it's 2011 I couldn't believe that I continuously had to see roller bladers. I thought that shit died out decades ago. Being a skater for decades, I hated the advent of that bullshit mode of transportation and I can't say that hatred has waned in the passing years. Fuck those people. And by extension, fuck long borders too. You're not skating, you're a frat boy who's too lazy to walk (at least in the Mid-West). So here's some classic punk if you want to be like me and be an old fool skating around town. I honestly can't even do any tricks anymore. But this shit makes me feel like I should try to jump a 50ft gap knowing all the while that a broken bone will occur but never caring.

Rudimentary Peni-Cacophony

At this point I’ve already posted tons of R.P. (just type it into the search engine at the top if you slept on those). And after two fairly long write ups, the fingers can use some resting, because I obviously don’t spend much time on these things and it’s more of a stream of consciousness type of exercise (hence the million typos (you think I’d actually spend time editing this?)). So yeah, here’s one more for you. I’m always surprised to see how many people actually download these albums. Not because I think they’re lousy (I obviously don’t) but I figured that if you’re already into this band you probably have all of their disks already. Well, one more.

Didjits-Signifies my Go T

Everything I read seems to say that Fizzjob was this band's debut, but, and I might be wrong about this, I seem to think that this cassette was their first release. And coming out of Matoon, IL there was little precedent for them to follow (has there ever been any other band from Matoon? Where the fuck is Matoon?). So one more Illinois post while I'm still lingering here eating hamburgers named after Thin Lizzy and drinking my share of Old Style. And I like the title since it makes fun of goatee and they are stupid. Full beards only fellas. It's really all or nothing when it comes to facial hair. Unless you want to half ass it and look like a dad at his child's soccer match that still thinks frosted hair makes him rock.

Bad Brains

I recently just upped a hundred or so new albums to my mediafire account. But rather then pull out some obscure, limited to two copies, weird out, I'll just play it safe. I'm sure everyone has this already, but even if that's the case, it had to appear at some time on this blog. I just felt..I dunno...naked without it. And since this was an album that I played on a daily rotation for far too long, it warms by bitter cold heart to finally share it with other.

Peter and the test Tube Babies-Pissed and Proud

Okay, I know this one will get some frowns, or at least some puzzled looks, but every now and then I like to hear some old Oi. I don't know what this is, but it just is. And for some reason, it seems fitting today. Now, I definitely will not claim this group as my favorite Oi band or anything. They probably wouldn't even make the top ten. So why is this posted, you'll ask. Because Transvestite is probably one of the best songs about, well, transvestites. And who doesn't love a good tale of pansexual deception and intrigue?

Screamers-Demos 77-78

For cryin' bones (thanks grandpa for that phrase (I still have no idea what it means)), but I surely do love the Screamers. Their synth punk (no guitars) was so far ahead of their time, people are still trying to crack the recipe. Too bad it ain't gonna happen. This shit is really one of a kind. Okay, Never Gender & Beelzebub Youth are kind close and also super awesome, but I think the Screamers win the battle. It's hot as shit here today, and walking around I noticed some asshead wearing those weird Juggalo black pants, and full length duster, but no shirt. Not a good look, but it did provide hours of mirth for me, just like this album does.

The Mentally Ill-Gacy's Place: The Undiscovered Corpsesch

I've been hitting the Chicago punk pipe pretty hard lately. I can't explain why. Nostalgia? Reconnecting with my roots? Who the fuck knows/cares. I am well aware that most people rate my hometown pretty low on the punk totem pole, but those people often neglect the fuzz punk awesomeness of this group and instead spend more time talking about how Vic Bondi is a prick (I don't know if he is since I never met the gent, but this is just something people seem to be interested in discussing). Well, I'll admit the city wasn't punk heaven or anything, but it was certainly weird enough to function as a petri dish breeding things of this ilk. I have to say, this super distorted guitar is fucking fantastic. The simplicity and psychosis make this an overall pretty depressive album, at least to me that is.

Debris-Static Disposal

Uh...Let's see. If I told you this came out of Oklahoma in 1975, I'm not sure if you could remotely guess what this would sound like. I still have a hard time describing it. Maybe if Roxy Music fell into a tar pit. Maybe you can find parallels with Captain Beefheart, Pere Ubu, or Red Krayola, but I don't know. You can call it psychedelic but it more acid punk than any thing. I don't want to hear saxes in a rock context normally, but for this album it somehow works. Some songs are just paeans to fuzz, some employ some buzzy bloopy synths. It's a pretty weird.
